Proclamation Day 2016

Today, 15th March, was Proclamation Day. All the schools in the country were raising their Irish flags that were delivered by the Defence Forces throughout the year. We were very proud today as we watched Ella Louise Dalton from 5th class raise the flag in honour of all those who dies in the 1916 Rising.

We held a ceremony outside at the flag pole. Ms. Dunphy read out the original Proclamation of 1916, followed then by Ella Raising the flag, with 5th class playing the National Anthem on tin whistle. After that, Ellie-Jo Kavanagh read out our schools Proclamation for a New Generation written by 5th class on behalf of all the staff and student of St. Gabriel's.  The ceremony ended with all the staff and children of St. Gabriel's singing our National Anthem. It was a beautiful ceremony and one we hope the children will always remember.
